A Presence is one person’s Living Record: written answers, original recordings, Life Events and the things they choose to keep. Guided questions help you start, with voice preservation where consent allows. Photographs, video and audio have a home in the Memory Vault. Build a Presence for yourself, or manage one for someone else when you are authorised to do so.

Create your Presence

A Presence is for yourself, or for someone else when you are authorised to manage one on their behalf. Create your account, follow the on-screen instructions, then say which it is. A name is the only detail required; everything else can wait.

Answer a question, or add a memory

We ask; you answer in your own words, by typing or by recording your voice. You can take the questions in any order, and stop whenever you like.

Revisit what you saved

Everything you keep appears in your Presence, gathered into chapters, ready to read, edit, or add to whenever you come back.

What you keep today is a beginning. Come back next month and there is more of it, and what it adds up to can be read as one life rather than a hundred separate answers.

Life Portrait

A life story drawn from what has been preserved, once there is enough of it to draw on. You read it and approve it yourself. As more is preserved you can update it, and the version you approved stays as it was.

My Journal

For your own Presence: somewhere to capture life as it unfolds — the moments, reflections, and experiences you want to preserve along the way, between the questions. Writing Journal recordings out into text is temporarily unavailable.

Echo

A conversation drawn from what was preserved.

Once a Presence holds some answers, the people who have access to it can ask it questions.

A reply is generated, not remembered. An Echo reply is written by a language model working from the answers and Life Events saved in that Presence, together with a few profile details. It is not a recording, and it is not something the person said.

Your recordings stay as they are. Original recordings are never altered, and an Echo reply never stands in place of one. An Echo does not draw on your photographs, your videos, or your Memory Vault files.

A preserved voice is still synthesis. Where a voice has been preserved and consented to, replies can be read aloud in it. That audio is generated, not a recording of the person speaking those words.

It is not the person. An Echo has no perfect recall, cannot be guaranteed accurate, and is not conscious. It is a way of revisiting what someone chose to leave behind.

What is a Presence?: One person’s preserved stories, memories, and voice, gathered in one place. You decide what goes into it, and who can ever see it.
Is an Echo reply the same as a recording?: No. Recordings are kept exactly as they were made. An Echo reply is generated from the answers and Life Events saved in a Presence — it is not something the person said, and it is not guaranteed to be accurate.
Who can see what I save?: Two things can open an Echo to someone else: an invitation you send by email, and a connection between two Presences that both owners agree to. Either way they can talk with the Echo — they cannot browse your answers, your recordings, or your Memory Vault. Invitations are listed on your sharing screen and you can withdraw them there; a connection is agreed separately.
Do I have to finish it?: No. A Presence grows whenever you come back to it. There are more guided questions waiting, Life Events to mark, more photographs, audio and video to keep in the Memory Vault, and for your own Presence, My Journal for whatever happens between the questions. When there is more preserved than last time, you can update the Life Portrait to match. There is no need to finish everything at once. Add to it at your own pace.
